Our Story

During the height of the civil war in Sri Lanka in 2009 a Canadian pastor while volunteering in an Internal Displaced Peoples (IDP) camp encountered a frantic mother who thrust her baby at him while screaming “save my child!” “save my child!”  This mother's desperate cries became the inspiration for our organization and name, “Save My Child Int”.

PROVIDING RELIEF

A thirty-year civil war, a devastating Tsunami in 2004 and a poverty cycle has left the country in ruins, along with thousands of abandoned and orphaned children.  It is in response to this heartbreaking situation that we respond each day with God’s love.  Our early initiatives provided relief to many children in IDP (internally displaced peoples) camps and local hospitals, later establishing a permanent home to care for such abandoned and orphaned children.

What We Do

Save My Child International meets the daily needs of young abandoned and orphaned children in Sri Lanka regardless of gender, ethnicity or religion.  From the inception of our first boys home in Vavuniya in 2009, the girls program in 2010, to our new home in Trinco in 2012, we have faithfully and passionately provided for each child under our care.

Once a child is given into our care we provide for them as any parent would, withholding nothing from them so that they may succeed and flourish.  We uniquely meet the holistic needs of each child.

a vital role

Great care is given in nourishing these children adequately, clothing them properly and providing the best education possible including extra tuition and English lessons.  We also regularly monitor their physical and mental health, ensuring their emotional and spiritual needs are attended to.

Being the most vulnerable in society they easily fall prey to physical, verbal and sexual abuse; some are lured into child labour, human trafficking and the sex trade.  We play a vital role in providing these young children with a safe, loving and secure home, whereby protecting them from these external dangers.
